Primary school pupils from Caversham became artists for the day with an exhibition of their work at an art gallery last Saturday. Around 15 children from Caversham Primary School attended the day long exhibition at the Blue Duck Gallery in Hemdean Road. Amongst the pieces on show were pinch pots made by pupils from year one, decorated with trees, fish, crocodiles and a variety of other animals. Pupils from year two contributed items including pottery lighthouses, which they made and painted themselves. Gallery owner, Clare Varley, said: “The pottery we had on display on Saturday was absolutely brilliant. The kids really used their imaginations and the results were spectacular. “Year two’s lighthouses were decorated in wonderful bright colours, and the year one children made beautiful pinch pots with all sorts of lively decorations. “The gallery would like to congratulate the children on the outstanding quality of their work.” Caversham Primary School’s headteacher, Chris Tomkins, said: “We do a lot of really high quality pottery at the school. The school is lucky enough to have a pottery teacher, Mrs. Jane Kane. We always try to display the children’s work, so that they know it is special and so the rest of the community can enjoy it.” Henley Standard - December 16th, 2005 |
